The opportunity
Selling a UK SME is still an opaque process. Owners rarely know who the credible buyers are, buyers struggle to find businesses that fit, and both sides depend heavily on intermediaries for information that could simply be published. We saw a marketplace opportunity: bring supply and demand into one place, verify who is real, and make the early stages far less painful.
What GCV Labs did
We co-founded Valius and built it through our venture process, from validating the model with owners and acquirers to defining how the marketplace would make money. The platform was designed and engineered in-house by our technology team, and we supported the business through launch and into its current growth phase.
The marketplace
Valius showcases over 1,000 UK businesses across a wide range of sectors. Smart matching helps buyers surface opportunities that fit their criteria rather than trawling listings, and end-to-end tools and support carry both sides through the journey from first discovery to completion, with structure at the points where deals usually stall.
Technology and platform
The platform was architected for a two-sided market, which means the hard parts are verification, matching and trust rather than page count. Buyer credentials are checked, seller information is presented consistently, and the workflow around enquiries, documents and progress is built into the product instead of living in inboxes and spreadsheets.
Building the team
As with every venture we create, we helped assemble the team around the business and gave it access to the shared product, engineering, marketing and finance capability it needed early on. That let Valius operate with the weight of a larger company while keeping its own cost base sensible during the build.
Where it is now
Valius is in its growth phase. The priority is scaling both sides of the marketplace at once, growing verified buyer demand alongside listed businesses, and continuing to deepen the transaction tooling so more of the journey from discovery to completion happens inside the platform.
